I frequently get asked how long I have been a photographer for?!
Professionally over 20 years but I have been taking photographs for much longer.
I got my first little camera when I was 10 years old for a big family holiday to America. I then took on my dad's old Pentax camera and the passion just grew. I use to drag my best friend around the village spending hours photographing whatever took my fancy and spending my babysitting pay to process the film and buy more! I knew from early on that all I wanted to be was a Professional Photographer. My dad was Journalist who travelled the world for his job and I to decided I wanted to be in the Press Industry too. I was very lucky in my late teens to be accepted on a prestigious Press Photography course in Sheffield. And this is where it all really began!
After qualifying I applied and was offered a Press Photography position at the Basingstoke Gazette in 2001. This is when I got my first digital camera!! The big adventure began, leaving my family home in Manchester for this small town down south! The years flew by with such a variety of photography assignments to cover for the newspaper and I also started to photograph many weddings, Commercial/PR shoots, Portrait sessions and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In 2007 I was offered promotion to run the photographic department as their Chief Photographer with a team of three. It was an exciting time and it kept me at the newspaper but over the years the freelance work increased and with my two adorable girls that followed it gave me the final and difficult decision to leave the newspaper in 2014 to concentrate on my Freelance Photography business full time.
This May sees 8 years of Sarah Gaunt Photography.
I am very lucky that I have a career I love and strife to continue to do better.
I am based in Basingstoke, Hampshire but cover the surrounding counties as well, I can offer a wide range of services to suit individuals, couples, families and the business community.
